My German Experience in X-lab
Last summer, I participated in the X-Lab International Scientific Summer Camp held by Göttingen University in Germany in which not only did I learn something new, but
I also made several new friends. More exciting is that German culture is not just knowledge in books to me now. Traveling into German life, I have better understanding of this country’s culture.

In class, I learned more about atomic physics and had a fascinating insight into Geiger counter. Moreover, I was provided opportunities to operate on magnetic stirrer, pipet, reflux condenser, centrifuge, etc. to produce Aspirin and perform processes of cracking and fractional distillation of crude oil. In terms of bio-experiments, I heard
about up-to-date applications of PCR technique and manipulated cutting-edge devices by myself later in the lab.

Outside the campus, I visited the city of Göttingen and began new friendship with many Germans and oversea students. Finally, I got to speak German in real life, a
language I have been learning for three years since junior high school.

I had a great time with the teaching assistant Lasse. Our conversation truly opened my eyes and granted me higher appreciation of cultural diversity. For example, we talked
a lot about soccer. I was a big fan of this sport. Actually I played for the school soccer team. As Germany is also famous for its soccer, Lasse told me the unique soccer
training system for teenagers in Germany. Moreover, He even shared with me his experience to support home games of Hamburger SV in Volksparkstadion by
cooperating with his friends to make banners.
